| And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. Luke 16:24 |
But Abraham said, "Son, remember that you had your good things in your lifetime, and that Lazarus had his evil things; but now here he is comforted and you are in sufferings. And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that no one may cross over from us to you, and none can come from your place to us." And he said, "I pray, O father Abraham, if Lazarus cannot come to me, command that he be sent to my father's house, for I have five brothers, and let him speak to them, so that they will not come to this place of torment."
But Abraham said, "They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them!"
'No, father Abraham,' he said, 'but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.'
And Abraham said to them, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.'"
Notice how true were the words of Jesus, for as the people would not listen to the words of Moses and the prophets about Christ, they would not believe, even after Jesus Himself arose from the dead.
